Becoming a Foster Parent? |

First Home Care (FHC) provides the community-based and
wraparound programming components in the Alternative Behavioral Services
system of care. Established in 1991,
First Home Care offers a host of services to children, youth and
families:
Our services target the hard-to-serve, multi-problem
children and youth and their families whose service needs may otherwise go
unmet. This extensive array of wraparound services has enabled children,
youth and their families to receive the care they need in their homes and
communities, reducing the need for institutional or out-of-community
placement.
These children and adolescents could benefit from a
supportive, structured home with a loving, nurturing family. Therapeutic foster
care provides the closest possible approximation of a normal family environment
that can be achieved in an out-of-home placement. Every child deserves that
opportunity and more. Maybe you can bring some light into a child’s life!

What Do Therapeutic
Foster Kids Need? |
| |
FHC Therapeutic Foster Care meets the needs of
children and youth who have experienced traumatic or abusive situations and
have emotional/behavioral issues as a result by providing them with
treatment services in the least restrictive most normalized environment.
Children and youth placed in the therapeutic foster homes present with a
variety of special needs:
-
psychological,
-
emotional,
-
behavioral,
-
social,
-
educational,
-
criminal,
-
various types of sexual dysfunction,
-
teenage pregnancy and parenting,
-
medical, and
-
substance abuse issues.
The role of the therapeutic foster parents is central to therapeutic foster
care. They serve as primary agents in the
delivery of therapeutic services to the child and are the primary focus of
intervention with children and youth in their care. Therapeutic foster parents
are provided with significant support from First Home Care including pre-service
and ongoing training, 24/7 crisis intervention services, respite, and caseworker
support. FHC provides foster parents with an allowance to for each child’s
clothing, personal hygiene, spending money, and room and board. Additionally, a
tax-free income stipend is provided per month per child/youth to the foster
parents.
